Tips for designers on community involvement from the IIDA:
Donate your Design Skills
Even if your firm doesn’t explicitly endorse volunteer work or participate in community design projects, you can still make a difference. Design-focused organizations need all the funding and manpower they can get to keep projects going. “We could make this a full-time job for everyone on our Board,” says Diane Nicolson, Board Member of PBD.
Forget you’re a designer
Put your own agenda aside and be a true student for a while. Study your community’s problems, clean up an alley or volunteer. This will give you a level of expertise you’ll need to understand community needs and to produce meaningful design proposals.

How to Contribute
Do you have skills and spare time on your hands? Paint a mural, offer a color consultation or interior design services, or get your hands dirty… help us paint and install carpet tiles!
Are you a business who can donate a service? For example, our sustaining partner Service West provides transportation for our furniture.
